5 Other Parodies of "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo"

The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo is a global sensation, the start of a bestselling trilogy of thrillers. Naturally, like everything that's really popular, people have been lining up to make fun of it. I threw my hat in the ring with The Girl Who Played With the Dragon Tattoo's Nest. Here are five other parodies I found.

1. The Girl Who Fixed the Umlaut by Nora Ephron - With a fraction of the words in the original novel, Ephron brilliantly satirized everything from the Swedish names to the excessive internal monologues. When she died, many cited this as some of her best work.

2. The Girl With the Sandwich Tattoo by Dragon Stiegsson - This novel has some very dark moments, and plays more with the wordplay of the original. This is actually the book that inspired me to write my parody, because it seemed there were missed opportunities. I think it's been removed from Amazon, because I can't find it now.

3. The Girl With the Sturgeon Tattoo by Lars Arffssen - This novel reads as both a satire of (and also an unofficial sequel to) the original trilogy. When reindeer are found brutally slaughtered, along with an unpublished thriller novelist, it all ties into a conspiracy involving ready-to-assemble furniture. I thought this was a very effective parody, riffing on Sweden as well as the original novels.

4. The Dragon With the Girl Tattoo by Adam Roberts - This novel takes its satire a step beyond the original by literally reversing species. In a world of dragons, one dragon has a tattoo of a fictional creature called a "girl." Its basically a gag on the original while playing in a mythical world. Oddly enough, the reviews of full of complaints from people who thought this was the original novel. As if the dragon wasn't enough of a clue.

5. The Girl With the Vancouver Canucks Tattoo by Jim Caple - If you're looking for a more sports oriented satire, this is a good short story. It's actually very clever with its name-dropping and internal monologue.

Honorable Mention: "The Pig With the Froggy Tattoo" is more a parody of the movie trailer, but it's still definitely one of the funniest.

Also, my book The Girl Who Played With the Dragon Tattoo's Nest is now available on Amazon for only 99-cents!
