10 Children's Books You Didn't Know Were Racist

A recent debate over Pippi Longstocking removing racist scenes from the TV show has ignited a discussion over how incredibly racist some beloved children's books were. The movement to censor or take these books out of the childrens' shelves is a fairly recent one. When I was growing up in the seventies, I was given The Story of Little Black Sambo to read, and no one batted an eye at the offensive caricatures. It was a different time. A different, racist time. Now that we've progressed as a society, Alltime10 has created this look back at ten children's books that had disturbingly racist overtones.
