100-Word Sci-Fi: "The Goose"

Every Saturday, I write a 100-word sci-fi story based on a random word. Today's word is "eggs."

The Goose
By Nigel G. Mitchell

Mirna Davis walked out of the barn when her husband Richard burst out of the coop and held up a bird in both hands.

"I've found it," he said. "The goose that lays golden eggs."

Mirna frowned. "Are you kidding?"

He shook his head. "No, come look."

They both climbed into the coop to look down at a small pile of glittering metal in the piles of straw littered around the coop.

Richard picked up one of the nuggets. "See? The eggs sure are small, though."

Mirna squinted. "Uh, Rich? Those are gold, but they aren't eggs. Might wanna wash your hands."
