Extinction

At the center of the great hall, Doctor Moraa Odett approached the podium. He swept his gaze across thousands of faces staring back with anxiety.
Odett leaned towards the microphone. "It's official. The last human being died of the plague one hour ago. The human race is extinct."
As he looked out over the audience, the doctor saw somber faces. Some exchanged glances. Then someone began to clap. Another followed, and another. They rose to their feet, one by one. Tentacles and claws and paws came together in clapping.
The auditorium echoed with applause. The applause carried across the galaxy.
